San Diego Padres outfielder Ha Sung Kim (28) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his team from losing.
Kim went 2-for-6 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and a walk in the leadoff spot in the lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies at Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, on May 5 (KST). He kept his season batting average at .275.
After leading off the bottom of the first inning with San Diego trailing 0-3, Kim battled Philadelphia starter Taijuan Walker for seven pitches. He took advantage of a four-seam fastball in the seventh inning, but flied out to center field.먹튀검증
In the bottom of the third inning, with the bases loaded, Kim harassed Walker once again. After drawing three consecutive foul pitches to force a nine-pitch count, Kim hit a grounder to shortstop and advanced to second when Philadelphia shortstop Trey Turner’s throw to first was deflected. A fielding error put him in scoring position, but he was unable to capitalize on the play.
In his third at-bat of the fourth inning, Kim showed off his fixer-upper instincts. With San Diego trailing 8-2 and runners on second and third in the bottom of the fourth, Kim took a five-pitch sinker from Walker outside the strike zone. Bryson Stott, who was biased toward second base due to a defensive shift, made a diving catch, but the ball was a clean double to center field.
With his bat on fire, Kim added an RBI single in the sixth. With runners on first and third and San Diego trailing 4-9, Kim faced an 0-2 count against Phillies reliever Andrew Bellatti, but he hit a four-pitch slider down the middle of the plate for a two-out, two-run double.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kim hit a 95.5 mph (153.7 km/h) fastball off Philadelphia’s Craig Kimbrel for a two-pitch count, but he was a little late and retreated into the right-field bleachers.
Kim had a chance to save the day in his final at-bat of the ninth. With San Diego trailing 7-9 in the bottom of the ninth, Kim faced Philadelphia left-hander Jose Alvarado with runners on second and third. He needed a single to tie the game and a home run to end it. After seeing a first-pitch strike, Kim took three pitches in a row, choosing his pitches carefully. After fouling off five pitches, he saw a cutter in the strike zone on the sixth pitch, but swung and missed, leaving San Diego with the loss.
San Diego, whose longest winning streak of the season is just three games, once again fell short of a four-game winning streak. At 65-74 (.468 winning percentage), the Padres are 6.5 games behind the National League wild-card cutoff, and their fall baseball hopes are fading.
