Mac Pro gets a performance boost from monster chip…desktop is ‘in the $10,000s’

The new Mac Pro is based on the M2 Ultra, with a 24-core CPU and up to 76-core GPU, offering at least twice the memory and SSD storage. It can be configured with as much as 192GB of memory with 800GB of integrated memory bandwidth per second.

All Mac Pros now have the power of seven built-in Afterburner cards and, like Mac Studio, the industry’s most powerful media engine. Both desktops with M2 Ultra can play an unprecedented number of 8K ProRes video streams – 22.

Mac Pro has a total of seven PCle expansion slots, with six open expansion slots supporting Gen 4, which is twice as fast as before, and the ability to customize Mac Pro with a core card. There are also three USB-A ports, two HDMI ports that support up to 8K resolution and 240㎐ frame rate with higher bandwidth, two 10Gb Ethernet ports, and one headphone jack that supports high-impedance headphones.

The Mac Studio and Mac Pro unveiled today are based on macOS Ventura, which will be enhanced in the second half of the year.

When macOS Sonoma launches this fall, it will introduce powerful features and productivity tools, giving you new ways to get things done on your Mac. macOS Sonoma will include significant improvements to video conferencing, a high-performance screen sharing app mode for hybrid workflows, better use of widgets, and updates to Safari.
