‘Ryu Hyun-jin ready to return to the big leagues, everything is fine!
Ryu Hyun-jin (36), the “Korean Monster” of the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB), is making his final preparations for his return to the big leagues. On July 27 (KST), he pitched in the bullpen to adjust his condition and is preparing to start pitching normally in early August.
Local media outlets, including Sportsnet Canada, are predicting that Ryu will be able to pitch in a major league game sooner rather than later. Toronto manager John Schneider also told the media that Ryu is “pretty close to coming back,” adding, “I know he’s feeling good.”메이저놀이터
Ryu hasn’t pitched on a big league mound in more than a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery (elbow ligament reconstruction) last June. He worked his way through the rehabilitation process and recently pitched in four minor league games. He advanced to Rookie League, Single-A, and Triple-A (twice), and is finalizing his comeback as he regains his pitch count and velocity.
At this point, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be available for a home three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels starting on April 29. Toronto will play through the 27th, then have one day off on the 28th before starting a 17-game series on the 29th. That’s 17 days without a single day off. The plan is for the ‘veteran’ Ryu Hyun-jin to step up to the plate in a situation where the pitchers’ stamina could be low.
Ryu’s comeback will come in a seven-game series against teams from the same district starting on August 1. The team is expected to play four games against the Baltimore Orioles, who are leading the division, and three games against the Boston Red Sox, who are winless in six games this season. The seven-game series against same-district opponents, the first of a “17-game slate of death,” is bound to be a watershed moment in the standings. Toronto currently sits in third place in the American League East and is in the midst of an uphill battle. Ryu’s return comes at a crucial time this season, when the team needs it most.
Ryu left the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019 to join Toronto. In 2020, he was an ace in a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, going 5-2 with a 2.69 ERA in 12 appearances. However, he fell short of expectations in 2021, going 14-10 with a 4.37 ERA, and then fell victim to injury in the middle of last year, going 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA.
R YU ready? After Ryu joined the team in 2019, the Toronto organization immediately showed its excitement by announcing on social media that he would be pitching the opening game of the next season. Utilizing Ryu’s last name, “RYU,” the team wrote, “R YU ready (Are you ready?)” in anticipation of a good performance. “R YU ready?” again, hoping to revive the Korean Monster. Ryu Hyun-jin holds the key to Toronto’s late-game comeback.
