FA (free agent) uncontracted’ Jeong Chan-heon (33) will play in an independent league for now. Current physical condition is good. After completing his registration as a player, he plans to maintain his senses while fighting.
Jeong Chan-heon will open on the 21st after registering as a player at Seongnam Magpies, an independent baseball team in the Gyeonggi-do league.
Jeong Chan-heon has yet to deliver the news of the contract with pitcher Kang Ri-ho in the FA market. Previously, Kiwoom Heroes, the original club, agreed with Chan-Heon Jeong on a sign-and-trade policy with only cash without compensation players, but could not find a team.
Still, Jeong Chan-heon is working hard to build his body during the off-season and is looking for opportunities. In February, he successfully completed live pitching and weight training at the Hongik University Suncheon Camp. Then, from the beginning of March, he joined the Gangneung camp of Seongnam Magpais and continued pitching in practice.
He didn’t even have bad grades. On the 11th, he recorded 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 strikeout and 1 run (visa book) in a practice game against Yeongdong University in Gangneung. His total number of pitches was 28. He showed a physical condition that was not much different from that of the season, shooting up to 139km of fastball. Then, on the previous day (16th),스포츠토토 he participated in a practice game with Gapyeong Wales and made a good pitch with 2 hits and 5 strikeouts in 4 innings. His pitch count was 50.
According to Jeong Chan-heon’s official, he plans to continue to increase the number of pitches in line with pitching intervals through actual matches. Jeong Chan-heon said, “I couldn’t digest the battery training that I had been doing every year because I couldn’t sign a contract. However, thanks to the help from the people around me, I am in good physical condition and am maintaining a sense of real combat at the Hongdae camp and Magpies in Seongnam.”
Jeong Chan-heon, who joined the LG Twins as the 1st overall pick in the 2nd round in 2008, became a 16-year professional veteran. In the meantime, he devoted himself to his team, going back and forth between starting and bullpen. He appeared in 23 games in the 2021 season and went 9-5 with an earned run average of 4.01 (51 earned runs in 114⅓ innings), and in the 2022 season, he appeared in 20 games and went 5-6 with an average earned run average of 5.36 (52 earned runs in 87⅓ innings).
It is evaluated that he is a resource that a team with a weak starting lineup can fully target. Possessing a variety of pitches, he can play in all weathers, regardless of whether he is a fifth starter, an alternate starter, or a long relief pitcher. In addition, in January of last year, Park Chul-woong, the head of Daejeon Woori Hospital, who is in charge of the attending physician, received a diagnosis saying, “As an athlete, there is no abnormality in the body.” He was a dugout leader and older brother who had a positive influence on the juniors even in the team. This is Jeong Chan-heon, who is diligently throwing the ball in the independent league to stand in the KBO league again.
