First PGA Tour win Matt Wallis: “I hugged my caddy this time, not fighting”

Matt Wallace (32, England) won his first championship in his debut at the PGA Tour Corales Puntacana Championship (total prize money: $3.8 million).

In the final round of the tournament held at Corales Golf Club (par 72, 7670 yards) in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on the 27th, Wallace made a birdie in the last 4 holes in a row to score 6 under par 66 and recorded a total of 19 under par 269스포츠토토, at the invitation of a sponsor. He won the championship by beating Nikolai Hoygor (Denmark), who participated, by one stroke.

After four wins on the European Tour, Wallace took home his first win at his 80th event on the PGA Tour and earned $684,000 in prize money. Since this tournament is mainly played by players who did not participate in the WGC match play held in the same week, the prize money was not large.

The win does not qualify Wallace for the Masters, but he does qualify for this year’s PGA Championship and next year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. In the world rankings announced on this day, it ranked 117th, up 58 places from last week (175th).

Wallace drew attention last week after exchanging a heated argument with his caddy on the final 18th hole of the final round of the Valspar Championship. When the caddy asked if he was certain about the ball going off the cart road, Wallace got very excited and even used profanity, saying, “Shut up **, don’t interfere,” heating up the relay screen. Wallace, who finished the Valspar Championship in a tie for 7th, later reconciled with his caddy by hugging, but continued to make headlines on social media.

The Associated Press reported the news of last week’s happening and first victory, saying, “Wallace and his caddy Samuel Bernard hugged each other on the 18th green without arguing this time.”

Noh Seung-yeol and Kang Seong-hun tied for 38th place (5 under par, 283 strokes), and Bae Sang-moon ranked 72nd (5 over par, 293 strokes), the lowest.
